The Sculpture
The Archeon is an interactive light and sound sculpture currently under
construction in Nevada City, CA.
In its form, the sculpture is an alien, bio-metallic spore; an antenna and signaling device planted here long ago to identify sentient, cooperative life. Upon detection, it opens and broadcasts messages to distant celestial objects.
The sculpture plays a musical call-and-response to which participants respond by singing notes together in harmony. They face each other, hear each others’ voices and sing notes together. The sculpture responds by opening its uppermost flower, targeting a star or planet, and sending a message with a big, green laser.
This Archeon project is a metaphor for awakening and personal transformation. It celebrates the emotional connection formed between two participants singing together. Onsite kiosks will display words and images that evoke the topics of awakening, connection and personal transformation.
We will deliver an emotional experience on-site that will challenge participants to become self-aware and empathetic. The sculpture itself starts the conversation and creates the emotional experience; onsite kiosks link the experience with the topic of awakening, connection and growth.
With these thoughts in mind, every person can become a catalyst for social change!
The Project
Discovery: (DONE) - a social event in the Black Rock Desert sparks an idea.
Concept: (DONE) - Clarify the message and write the story.
Design: (DONE) - Visual and interaction design: how to inspire and deliver the message.
Activation: (Dec-May) Build, design, build, then design and build some more!
Interaction: (Jun-Jul) Full scale testing, feedback and rework.
Deployment (Aug) Install and manage on-site for Burning Man 2024.
Propagation: (2024+) The team publishes its learnings to date, plots next steps.
Motivation
Isolation affected us all over the past few years… some more than others. The Archeon Project is about that isolation, the joys of reconnecting with friends, and how to spread the word so that we rebuild our social networks.
The project is a catalyst for social change.
