Trunk Progress
These past weeks the shop has been busy cutting and assembling foam parts for the trunk. Plenty of time waiting for the CNC to cut foam (4-5 hours), then gluing them together on a form (30 mins), then waiting 5+ days for the adhesive to cure. BORING!
That said, I'm happy to report that all the cutting and assembling of the lower trunk is complete. It's all ready for final, detail sculpting and fiberglass.
The straps are on it to keep the pieces together while the foam adhesive cures (takes 5-6 days!). When released from its tethers, the lower trunk will be 2 large pieces that are attached to the plywood sleeve and can be slipped-onto the truss. Our goal is to make the sculpture easy to assemble on-site.
If you’re keen to learn fiberglass, drop by the shop on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Bring a VOC vapor mask :)
