The Sculpture
The Archeon is an interactive light and sound sculpture currently under
construction in Nevada City, CA. The sculpture celebrates the joy of human connection and reminds us that the most valuable experiences we have are often the simplest.
In its form, the sculpture is a botanic, metal and wooden flower - an antenna and signaling device planted here long ago to identify sentient, cooperative life. Upon detection, the flower blossoms and broadcasts its message of hope to distant celestial objects with a big, green laser.
The sculpture brings people together, gives them a joyous experience celebrating human connection and rewards them with a celestial light show.
This Archeon project is a metaphor for awakening and personal transformation, for human connection and healing. . Onsite kiosks that display words and images evoke the topics of awakening, connection and personal transformation.
If our minds are open, art has the power to connect and transform us.
Black Rock Desert, 2024
The Project
Discovery: (DONE) - a social event in the Black Rock Desert sparks an idea.
Concept: (DONE) - Clarify the message and write the story.
Design: (DONE) - Visual and interaction design: how to inspire and deliver the message.
Activation: (Dec-May) Build, design, build, then design and build some more!
Interaction: (Jun-Jul) Full scale testing, feedback and rework.
Deployment (Aug) Install and manage on-site for Burning Man 2024.
Propagation: (2024+) The team publishes its learnings to date, plots next steps.
Motivation
Isolation affected us all over the past few years… some more than others. The Archeon Project is about the simple joy of reconnecting with friends and the message of hope one can send into the world.
