On-site Communications
Participants interact with the sculpture strictly through sound, light and touch, no verbal communications. We will design the interactions to be meaningful, emotional and impactful within this constraint.
However, the project’s overall message of Isolation and Reconnection, as well as the project’s origin story and the process of recovering from isolation require considerable thought and explanation. The sculpture’s interaction will leave a lasting impression, but we want participants to remember the message and take action upon returning home.
We are proposing a set of 3 triptychs that will have the following content:
Origin Stories - there are 3 stories on this triptych: (1) my personal experience with Vertical Camp 2023 that spawned the project; (2) the tongue-in-cheek science fiction story of how a group of revelers discover an ancient artifact in the mud and it grows into The Archon; and, (3) the human story of isolation and reconnection.
True Connections - rebuilding our social fabric requires us to create many new “true connections” with people we’ve distanced. This triptych will explain the 3 principles of True Connection: shared experience; vulnerability; and, empathy.
Recovery - How do we recover? This triptych has panels for building self-awareness of isolation, having empathy towards others who are still isolated and how to reconnect. We will suggest specific actions to facilitate reconnection.
The last two triptychs will really benefit from having a psychologist, or a therapist with direct experience helping people cope/recover from isolation, direct the content.
Our goal is to have the sculpture’s interaction be meaningful so that the participants will remember the message and bring it home.
